Epsilon Sigma Phi – Alpha Beta Chapter
University of Georgia Cooperative Extension

November 2010

The Alpha Beta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi (ESP) is off to having a good year so far starting with the annual meeting in August.  For those members who missed the National Historian-Steve Stark’s retracement of the history of the land-grant institutions in Georgia, you missed an awesome illustrated presentation of that period in time.  While there was not a state nominee for national recognition for the Friend of Extension Award, the committee had a few suggestions for future nominations.  Scholarship funds were raised through both live and silent auctions and we had an outstanding number of poster presentations highlighting the outstanding work being conducted by Cooperative Extension across the state.  Thanks to everyone who was involved with planning the annual meeting, scholarship auctions, poster presentations, and awards recognition this year.  The state meeting was a refreshing rejuvenation of our profession.

The national meeting of ESP was held in beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming in October.  Representing our state chapter was Jennifer Grogan and Grace Garnier as chapter voting delegates.  A total of six members attended the national meeting.  Georgia had 4 state members to receive national recognition during the national award ceremonies.

Jennifer Grogan and Grace Garnier will represent ESP at the Joint Council of Extension Professionals (JCEP) meeting in Athens in December with Dean Scott Angle.

In regard to business for 2010-2011, please be sure to send your dues to your ESP District Director or Marcie Simpson ASAP if you have not already done so.  The association needs every member to be current and counted for national chapter recognition.  If you plan to retire, we hope you will consider becoming a Life Member of the association.  Please contact Marcie Simpson @ msimpson@uga.edu, for additional information on Life Membership in ESP.

Other items of interest for 2011 include:

  • Annual State Meeting, scheduled for August 30 & 31, 2011 at TBA.
  • National ESP meeting scheduled in Syracuse, New York. More information is available at http://espnational.org

Best wishes for a safe holiday season. More updates in the New Year!
